James Monaghan for Europe 2009

Environment

James with the recycling stickers he helped pioneer in LeedsJames' experience at NASA conducting research into climate change has left him in no doubt about how crucial the treatment of our environment is. The EU has its sceptics, but we must promote its successful work on protecting our environment to change their opinions. The EU is effectively an environmental superpower with the ability to tackle environmental issues on a scale that is unprecedented, as well as influence other nations in a way that as a country we could never hope to achieve. As Liberal Democrats we are well positioned to lead on this issue and James will work with our national and european parliamentary parties to push the environmental agenda.

The Liberal Democrats are clearly the greenest major party in the UK and have been for many years. James believes we must move on to enhance our green liberalism and implement policies that show sustainability can be achieved through liberal democratic institutions and market oriented policies. Living within our environmental limits and reducing our ecological footprint are essential for ensuring a sustainable future.
