James Monaghan for Europe 2009

Supporting Small Businesses and Investment in Yorkshire

James with police officers from the Shop Watch schemeJames successfully established and ran a small business in Leeds and is all too aware of how demanding a job this is.

Supporting small business is vital for the economy of the country and region. The Labour government has implemented too much new legislation that has increased the amount of red tape that small businesses must deal with. The EU plays a key role in introducing new legislation to protect consumers and the environment, but as an MEP James would ensure that the EU considers the effect of all new legislation on businesses to reduce the amount of red tape they face.

James would use his position to expand the economy of Yorkshire and the Humber to the benefit of all those that live in the region, and support for innovative small businesses is a central part of that effort.

The EU has done a lot for our region with huge investment in some of this country's most deprived areas. James would do all he can to ensure the EU continues to invest in our disadvantaged communities to ensure we narrow the gap between those that have and those that have not across Yorkshire and the Humber.
